Unmissable 5: The Love Supreme Jazz Festival

Olivia Dean Love Supreme GIFTED Journal

The Love Supreme Jazz Festival, Europe’s largest outdoor jazz festival, is set to return to the picturesque Glynde Place in East Sussex from July 5th to 7th. With an all-female headline bill, this year’s lineup is more electrifying than ever, promising a weekend filled with unforgettable performances and experiences. Here’s our unmissable five.

Unmissable Five

Olivia Dean

Topping the bill on Saturday night is easy-going songstress Olivia Dean, the UK’s breakout star of 2024. With a year marked by three Brit Award nominations, including Artist of the Year, and a Mercury-nominated debut album, Dean is set to deliver her first festival headline show.

Noname

Bringing a sense of purpose and intention to Love Supreme, Chicago-bred rapper, poet and producer Noname graces the line-up. With a book club of revolutionary frequency around her, Noname anchors us with what's important: community.

Joss Stone

For a soul session rooted in L-O-V-E, you won’t want to miss UK vocal powerhouse: Joss Stone. With her iconic raspy tone and free spirited aura, Joss Stone’s performance promises to elevate you into a trance.

Chaka Khan

Through the fire of Sunday antics, the weekend will see the legendary Chaka Khan, celebrating 50 years in music, bring her ten-time Grammy-winning magic to the stage. Following her unforgettable curation of the 29th edition of Meltdown, the UK’s longest running artist curated musical festival at the Southbank, we’re ready to let go with the Queen of Funk.

Cécile McLorin Salvant

Jazz enthusiasts will be captivated by a performance from Cécile McLorin Salvant - multi-award-winning vocalist. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Cécile is a classically trained gem, storytelling through blending genres like folk, blues, baroque, jazz and country

One of the festival's most anticipated moments will also be Sananda Maitreya's first UK concert in over 20 years. Love Supreme also boasts performances from Dionne Warwick, Jordan Rakei, Trombone Shorty, Mahalia, Black Pumas, Kool & The Gang (celebrating 60 years since they formed), Manu Katché and many more.

Beyond the Music

The festival offers more than just musical magic. Enjoy a restful wellness and yoga area with organised strolls across the South Downs hills; there will be plenty of activities on offer for children, with a dedicated Supremium area with exclusive artist performances. The Jazz Lounge will host intimate artist interviews, panel discussions, and film screenings. Why not take a moment to immerse yourself in the expanded Bands & Voices area, which will feature cabaret, spoken word, and swing dance lessons, while the Blue In Green area in the woods promises late-night live music and DJs.
