FATHERS is the self-titled debut project from producer Kenny Beats, keyboardist Kiefer, bassist CARRTOONS and drummer Nate Smith.
From the opening moments, the group's jazz foundations are unmistakable. Electronic textures in the production bring the music firmly into the present, creating a sound that sits comfortably alongside what our GIFTED Journal readers would know as lo-fi, instrumental hip-hop and alternative jazz playlists.

There's a warmth and groove throughout the project that feels tailor-made for summer listening. Funky basslines, rich keys and masterful drums create an atmosphere that's both laid-back and deeply musical.
The collective experience of the artists is evident. FATHERS benefits from a maturity that allows each artist to shine in their pocket and together create records packed with detail without ever feeling overcrowded.
Perhaps the album's greatest strength is its consistency without repetition. Each track introduces something fresh. FATHERS carve out their own space. It's a confident debut from four artists who find flow state together in this project.
A genuine gem of a find, and one of the most enjoyable instrumental releases we’ve heard this year.
FATHERS is out now. Available on major music services via Blue Note Records.
