Arthi Hard: Summer Sizzler
Ahead of her upcoming show at Patterns in Brighton this Friday, we caught up with mutli-genre DJ, Arthi - ‘The Arthi starter for every occasion’. Fusing sounds from London, UK funky and garage, to global influences from dancehall to afrobeats, with a dazzling smile, Arthi delivers high-energy mixes that have sold-out headline shows across Europe. Her debut moments include features on platforms like Hör and Boiler Room, and with regular appearances on Rinse FM and guest mixes on BBC Radio 1Xtra and more, this undeniable talent doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.
Arthi, thanks for taking a moment with us. You’re a successful DJ, Dancer, and Journalist that’s obviously taking over the scene - how do you balance it all?
I try to block out time to focus on particular things so it is easier to compartmentalise and it doesn’t all get too overwhelming, but this is sometimes easier said than done! I think part of it is just not expecting to be able to balance everything perfectly and being kind to yourself when the balance isn’t quite right - as there will be good times and bad times.
With so much in the air, how do you keep your creativity alive?
Taking breaks and leaving things to come back to them! Having a mix of things to do gives me space and time to let things marinate before I come back to them. I also like collaborating with people as a way to stay inspired - working with producers on edits or going back to back with other DJs.
Your sets are guaranteed to lift spirits - what can we expect from your show at Patterns next month?
I’m so excited to party in Brighton! The set will very much be guided by what vibe people are on on the night, but personally I am really enjoying the slow build of a set and lots of heavy drums at the moment. If we get a bit of sun - even better, we’ll be in a silly mood!
What’s been one of your proudest moments of your career in music so far?
It hasn’t come out yet but the Boiler Room set I played at the Sugababes party last week is definitely up there! I felt at home and played a set that felt true to me - to do that on a lineup of some of my favourite DJs and good friends, as well as the Sugababes, was incredible! Will never forget.
