5 Ways to Spring Clean Your Life
Spring is here! We’re prepping for this new season of growth by decluttering. That’s right – it’s time to Marie Kondo our way to a refreshed mind, body, and soul.
We don’t have the answers to everything, but these 5 steps might help with getting started:
1. Declutter Your Home
Somewhere in your home, you probably have a drawer full of stuff that you don’t really need, but don’t really want to sort through either. This is your cue. Tidy out the weird stuff drawer – it’s like a free therapy session.
The same goes with the fridge, and your pantry (this one’s just good practice to avoid waste). Get into those nooks and crannies, throw out the old jam, and remember the organic risotto rice in the back of the cupboard that you keep meaning to use up. Waste not, want not!
You could even sort through your wardrobe, and up-cycle that pair of trousers you haven’t worn in months.
The key is to feel calm and collected. Clean space, clear mind.
2. Declutter Your Plans
As we adjust back to our busy lives and schedules, the lives we led pre-pandemic seem like A Lot. Going out three nights a week, in the office every day, and fitting in the gym? Couldn’t be me.
Don’t be afraid to take some time out if you have to – the world will still be there when you’re ready (and rested) for it. Take it easy, and prioritise spending your free time on what makes you happiest. Think: what sparks joy?
3. Declutter Your Relationships
Take the time to review who brings you joy, who you want to spend more time with, and whether there’s anyone in your life who perhaps isn’t the best for you. Be it friends, partners, co-workers or family, establishing healthy boundaries is essential.
Evaluate your relationships with the people around you – tell people you’re grateful for them and share love often, but also trust your gut – remove people who do harm if necessary. Your time and energy is sacred.
4. Declutter Yourself
Spring clean your mind, body, and soul. If you’re feeling cluttered and chaotic, it’s time for a detox. To declutter your mind, try meditation – there are plenty of guides available online to help beginners go from zapped to zen. Journaling is another great way to empty your thoughts from the brain to the page.
But these aren’t the only solutions. Feed your mind, body, and soul by going out and having a good time with people who make you happy! Walks in nature, laughing with friends, and even a change of scenery with a weekend away are all steps you can take to reset and rejuvenate in time for spring.
5. Find What Sparks Joy, and Multiply It
It’s not all about just getting rid of stuff. Add plants to your home, add music to your day, add greens to your diet, add a song and dance to your morning routine – live a little, and allow your silly goofy mood to shine (be more Shemar Moore).
